Just FYI -

mozilla.org seems to be down right now.

Lots of the Firefox add-ons don't seem to be upgraded yet.

Might be good to wait a few weeks to make the change. I wish I would have.

Edited: I am SUCH a fibber... Got to looking at it and decided to go ahead with the install.. Only 3 of my addons aren't working and they are not exactly stuff I "need". ;)

In the mean time - Google Bookmarks, ColorZilla, Greasemonkey, HTML Validator, Image Zoom and ReminderFox are all working normally.

Looks pretty good so far. :thumbup1:

I only have a few add-ons - Reminder and Remove It Permanently and AdBlockPlus. My RIP isn't working like I thought it would, so guess that wouldn't be so bad. Glad the Reminder works. Thanks for the info, I may d/l it later.

My adblock did not work after my upgrade but you can get an Add on that does and that is Adblock plus and it works the same but with more subsriptions you can choose.

It's really surprising people still use IE, except for when they're forced to.

I use it because of Windows Update. That's about it. I do notice the few time I use it for much else that it's also a huge memory hog. Especially if you use more than one tab.

I saw this on another forum:

Better GMail2 add on ROCKS! :flag:

I wish the theme I was using would get updated though. That's the last update I'm really waiting for.

I try to avoid having to use IE, I usually use either FF or Opera. With FF being my primary browser.

Firefox Add-ons: Recommended Add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/recommended)

Like others have mentioned, I keep IE available for the Windows updater and the rare website designed solely for it that I actually want to peruse - (believe it or not a couple of the government sites are IE only - I shouldn't have been so upset but flamed their webmasters)... FireFox has been my default web browser for a very long time, and I was a die-hard Netscape user before that. Used NCSA Mosaic before Winderz and AOLers got on the net. :))..

This new version is well worth upgrading to IMO.

It does and it is here for Firefox 3.0 but they have one for 2.0 as well. It is says everything on what to do in the link I provided:

http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Change+the+e-mail+program+used+by+Firefox

You will need to change what to do in the upper left hand part where it says in a box ( Firefox 2 ) but right now it is set up for ( Firefox 3 ). If you have only Firefox 2.0 without the upgrade to Firefox 3.0.

I hope that can help you out VikingBolt.

I'm still new to Firefox (only about a month or so that I've used it). Does Firefox have an email program like IE?Hey VikingBolt, I've been using Mozilla's Thunderbird eMail client since it was in initial beta - wanted to avoid the attacks all of the script kiddies were doing against MS Outlook Express at that time.. (Read "way back then" ;))..

I'm currently using Thunderbird version 2.0.0.14 with the Lightning add-on, (one of their calendar projects) and through another addon called "Provider for Google Calendar 0.4" use lightning to manage my google calendar. (If you don't want everything tied together - you can use their stand-alone calendar "Sunbird" to do the same stuff).

Additional Thunderbird addons I use are Enigmail (for encrypted eMail), Folderpane Tools (more control over display of multiple accounts), MoreFunctionsForAddressBook and Thunderbirthday (permits me to enter birthdays, etc. in my address book), QuickQuote (only quote highlighted portion of original message), SpamatoForThunderbird (a very aggressive multi-faceted spam handler), ..... you get the idea. ;)

The wife used a regestered copy of the QualComm eMail client called Eudora for YEARS - last month I installed Thunderbird with "Penelope" for her (creates a Eudora equivalent user interface) and she is real happy with it.

....

Major releases of Thunderbird have traditionally followed major releases of FireFox by a few weeks and I am licking my chops to see what they come up with this time.

The projects under the auspisis of Mozilla.org (go to mozilla.com to get links to download thunderbird BTW) and those associated with OpenOffice.org are some of the absolute BEST open source projects on the web IMO.

Wow, sounds great. It is free, right? I have a Yahoo email account which gets absolutely NO spam/junk mail at all. I've complained to my ISP about all the junk mail I get there and they say unless it comes from one of their own clients (like me) they can't do anything about it. The ones I hate the most have no from and no subject and nothing in the body...for awhile I was getting between 15 and 25 a day like that. LOL I tried to reply from one to another but most got rejected.

I first started out with Eudora also and really loved it. But then it got too expensive for me and where I worked I had to use Outlook so just went with it at home also.

Thanks for the info.

Ok, I D/L'd and installed Thunderbird. I guess I didn't understand how it worked, as I thought I would have a completely new email address (like @yahoo, etc). And after I imported my Outlook Express Address Book, it made 3 address books, so took a long time to arrange entries. Then I "hear" the 'got mail' alert, but no email came into my inbox, that happened 2ce. I don't know where they went? So, I then went to my webmail account and found 3 email, but not the earlier email I 'heard'. Am I missing something in how to set it up?

TIA
